What is yoga?
In general, yoga is a mind-body practice that combines physical postures, breathing exercises, meditation, discipline and even humility to promote mindfulness, overall health and well-being. Yoga can help the practitioner learn awareness and control over one's own thoughts, habits, and actions and instill a happier lifestyle.
What is the difference between a yoga studio and a yoga school?
Not only do we focus on strength, flexibility and general fitness like any yoga class, we also take deep consideration that Cedar River Yoga is a school focusing on education and knowledge of yoga. Whether that is making progress in your daily practice, setting goals for something you want to learn more about, seek mentorship, or ready to take the leap into teacher training; we help you set goals so you make progress in the right direction.
I’ve never done yoga before, how do I choose the right type of class for me?
Just come to class that works for your schedule. You’re always welcome to just watch, listen and follow along. Do your best and have fun! You can rest as much as you like. Come try all the different classes and meet all our teachers. Your teacher will guide you along the way. You can read about our different types of classes we offer here.
Do I need to be flexible to start practicing yoga? What are the benefits?
No, yoga will help improve strength and flexibility over time. You can start at any level. Benefits include increased flexibility, strength, stress reduction, improved posture, mental clarity, and happiness. Consistency and gradual advancement in poses will help you progress.
Should I eat before or after a yoga session?
It's best to eat lightly at least 1-2 hours before a session or have a small snack if needed.
How do I find a qualified yoga instructor or class?
All of our teachers are required to have a minimum 200 hours education and hold a certificate of completion to teach yoga. All of our teachers, however, have many more hours of professional development, extra certificates, mentorship and specialty experience than even 200 hours! You are in good hands here.
How often should I practice yoga?
You can come to class as often as you like. It is safe to practice everyday. But even starting with 2-3 sessions per week is a good baseline. Come to class as often as you can.
Can I do yoga if I have physical limitations or injuries?
Yes, but consult with your healthcare provider and inform your instructor about any limitations or injuries.
How long does a typical yoga session last?
Sessions can range from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. Check our schedule for updates. Please try not to arrive late or depart early. Arrive on time, be respectful, and follow the instructor's guidance. Be ready to go when class starts.
We do appreciate you signing up online in advance. It is only required, however, for our earliest class times.
If you would like to take an early class, we kindly request that you register online by 9pm the night before.
If there are no registrations, class will be canceled at 9PM the night before.
This will help you commit to coming to class with accountability and help us serve our growing community with more precision.

What is Members Open Practice?
As you make progress, you’ll start to consider your goals and how you want to make progress which may include flexibility, stress relief, strength, etc. Students will discuss with their teacher to set goals based on where they want to make progress. Come to Open Practice and receive guidance and more ownership of your practice. A teacher will always be available to help! Come give it a try.
This class is appropriate for practitioners that have taken a few classes already or are generally more experienced, come join during an open practice session and see what it’s all about!
What should I wear and bring to a yoga class?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for a full range of motion. A yoga mat is required and in some classes you may enjoy props like blocks and straps. You may bring your own mat, rent or purchase one at the studio. Bring a water bottle too if you like. We have refreshing beverages for purchase as well. There is always complimentary tea available.
What is your facility like? Is this hot yoga?
Cedar River Yoga School is an all inclusive and safe space for everyone. We have two non-gendered restrooms, 2 gendered designated changing rooms, a community library and tea room you may enjoy anytime the studio is open. We have a small classroom where we can offer professional development classes or private lessons. We have lots of storage space for your belongings and over 700 sq. ft. of practice space for class. Lots of room for everyone! We can’t wait to have you in class. You will enjoy classes that range from a nice 70 degree room temperature to maybe a little warmer pending on the needs of class, season and weather outside. We have lovely ceiling fans to circulate and move air around the studio to keep you warm or cool. We have lots of parking available in a well lit parking lot too! We are not a hot yoga studio.
What is your refund and cancellation policy?
Specialty Events & Unlimited Attendance Memberships are non-refundable and non-transferable. Expiration dates will not be extended for illness, scheduling conflicts, lack of use, or changes in motivation.
Monthly Memberships require a minimum of 4 months on auto debit. If you do not cancel, it will continue at your INTRO Membership rate. You must give at least 14 days notice after your 4 months minimum purchase is complete by email to: cedarriveryogaschool@gmail.com to request a cancelation. Monthly Memberships may be put on hold for up to 8 weeks, once a year.
Class pass punchcards may be shared and transferred. One year expiration dates will not be extended. You may rollover any unused classes to a punch card of equal value.
Annual packages and punchcards will have a 3% discount option by paying cash or check in studio.
Cancellations for a scheduled class you have registered for, less than 5 hours in advance, will result in a $10 Cancellation Fee.
